{A Wedding To Remember} Sherrena + Dexter

{Film Credit:  Sculpting With Time Productions}

Love can strike at any moment...that puppy love in kindergarten, your first love at the high school dance, at a wedding, even at a bar....but in the case of Sherrena+Dexter, it was in college, then later at a festival...the Essence Festival...18 years later!

Funny how love works.  Sherrena was the quiet girl in college.  Dexter was the guy all the girls loved and all the guys loved to hang out with.  Even though, the love bug bit them then, the bite wasn't potent enough.  Eighteen years later in NOLA during the Essence Festival, their eyes meet again.  They talk, have dinner and BAM!...the love bug has bitten again and this time, the bite is pretty hard.  Sherrena+Dexter were inseparable from that point on!

I still recall the first day I met with this gorgeous couple as they recounted their love story.  I immediately fell in love with Sherrena+Dexter and was excited to start the wedding plans.  We had a fabulous time searching for the right venue, styling a sultry engagement shoot and creating a beautiful wedding of rich purples, gunmetal tones and crystals.  The vibe was to be "sexy and sultry in the city".  The venue was to be urban, where Downtown Houston would serve as the evening's backdrop.

Lush flowers of Hydrangeas, Roses and Orchids would grace the tables, covered in gunmetal and eggplant rose-ribboned linens.  Jeweled candle holders were to create an ambiance of romance as they accented the lush centerpieces.  The amazing towered cake, embellished with jewels and crystals, mimicking the design from Sherrena's dress was breathtaking.  Now, what really took the cake {yes, the pun is intended} was the spectacular groom's cake Sherrena and I designed for Dexter, an inspiration taken from the painting of the dogs playing poker.  This surprise groom's cake included three dogs, breeds carefully selected to represent each one of Dex's groomsmens' personalities.  Instead of playing poker, these edible furry friends were playing domino...a favorite pastime of Dexter.  The head of the table is, of course, a lion with a crown and a bottle of Grey Goose on the table.

Family and good friends was always an important element for Sherrena+Dexter and wanted to make sure they were included as much as possible.  Dexter's older brother, a minister, had the honor to preside over Sherrena+Dexter's wedding.  His words, so beautifully spoken and so meaningful, left not a dry eye during this touching ceremony.  One of Sherrena's good friends served as an amazing vocalist that brought chills just listening to her!

As one professes love for one another, it is important to include the children, just as Sherrena+Dexter did at the reception with a symbolic sand ceremony.  Two beautiful families united to become one.  What a beautiful and momentous celebration!

It's little details such as the carefully selected cake designs, the styled engagement shoot evoking sensuality, desire and love, the couture stationery tailored to set a tone, all make for a very personal wedding.  Feast your eyes on the amazing film highlight by Alex and Whitney of Sculpting With Time Productions and witness what was lived on such a special night!
