{Wedding Planning 101} Popularity in Destination Weddings

{Written by Jessica Davis, Photo Credit: Monkey Tree Photography}

Here's another post from the lovely Jessica Davis....enjoy!

We have seen an increase of couples choosing destination weddings over local weddings and it's not surprising to see why.  Destination weddings provide an enjoyable experience for friends and family in amazing settings with an unbelievable backdrop. With the rise in popularity, many resorts and cruises are making it easier for couples by offering packages exclusively for wedding parties.  Offering an onsite resort coordinator to help with the wedding planning process abroad is a huge appeal for couples.  However, a word to the wise, a couple looking to host a destination wedding must start planning with plenty of time, so please don't feel you can wait to book at the last minute.  Couples will have greater success if they start planning as soon as possible.

www.daytoremember.net

We've provided you with some food for thought when planning your destination wedding:

Location
Location is by far the most important aspect when planning your destination wedding. Your wedding location will depend on not only, you as a couple, but also how much your budget can handle. Some of the most popular destinations are beach locations in Mexico, the Caribbean and Hawaii; however, some couples forego the beaches and travel to Europe for something more dramatic and historic.

Budget
Have your budget from the beginning. Figure out how much you are willing to spend and which area will receive the greatest funding. Contact a travel agent and see what packages are available while also contacting the hotel individually. You can compare each one and see which one offers the most while saving some money.

Guest List
Destination weddings are usually designed for a smaller guest count, which allows for a more intimate setting for the couple.  You want to ensure to send out Save the Dates at least eight months in advance to allow your guests plenty of time to make travel arrangements, take time off from work, etc.

Weather & Time
Weather plays a huge factor on your special day...so please consult with an almanac when selection your destination.  For example, we've had clients insistent on wanting to get married in the Caribbean in the summer...not realizing this is hurricane season.  Something else to consider, your destination's peak travel time, which will impact your budget drastically.

Laws & Regulations
Each country has their own set of laws and procedures.  To ensure a swift and pleasant experience, please be sure you become familiar with any regulations and laws.  Nothing is more frustrating than arriving to your destination and learning you can't go through with any of your plans.

To ensure a more pleasant experience, we strongly recommend you seek the assistance of an experienced destination wedding planner, allowing you more time to enjoy the wedding planning experience!  Happy planning!!!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Today, China celebrates and welcomes the new Lunar Year with the Horse.

www.daytoremember.net

If you're born on the year of the horse, you will encounter the Year of Birth {Benming Nian}.  It is believed you will offend Taisui, the god in charge of fortune, so your finances may fluctuate. In terms of career, it is advised you keep the peace between colleagues.

So if you're not born on the year of the horse, what will the year bring to you? Health and Prosperity.

Happy New Year!

{DTR Styled Shoot} Radiant Orchid...Urban Glitz

{Photo Credit:  Motley Mélange}

When Pantone released 2014's Color of the Year...Radiant Orchid...I can honestly say I was tickled pink...and well...purple too!  According to Pantone, "Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination.  It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple--one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.  A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, emanates great joy, love and health."

Well, Radiant Orchid definitely intrigued my eye and sparked some amazing imagination and inspiration to say the least!  We teamed up with Motley Mélange to create a styled shoot, worthy of Pantone's Radiant Orchid and I believe we succeeded.  Bringing in the love of gold glitter, A Day To Remember decided that our styled shoot would be "Radiant Orchid's Urban Glitz".  We've all seen the beautiful charms of the vintage, rustic settings, but not much of the beauty the inner city charm can bring.  I knew right away that Silver Street Studios, a delicious warehouse located in the Heights would be the perfect setting.  Putting together an amazing team, finding the perfect models and the promise of a gorgeous setting became a beautiful reality!

We were inspired and hope you will find inspiration as well!

{Wedding 101} How to Deal with a Bridesmaid Who Isn’t Being Your Number One Supporter

{Written by Jessica Davis; Photo Credit: RHPhotoArts}

Here's another great article from our very own Jessica!  Enjoy!

We all have seen it: there is one bridesmaid in particular who is not on board. She is always late to meetings, she complains about the bridesmaid dresses, and is not a supporter of your wedding in general. Case in point, watching one episode of “Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaid edition, and you, the bride-to-be will be frightened of what is to come. Hopefully with these tips, my lovely brides, you can get your bridesmaid back on the right path.

www.daytoremember.net
{Photo Credit:  RHPhotoarts}

1.  Set Expectations from the Beginning
When you set expectations right from the beginning, it will be less likely that problems will arise. Bridesmaids will have a clear set of guidelines of what you will expect from each one of them throughout the wedding process.
2.  Talk to Her
If a bridesmaid is becoming overbearing or is not being a supporter, talk to her, pull her aside and ask what is going on. It could be she is worried that things could change between the two of you or she has an issue with the wedding party. No matter what it is, make time to communicate with one another.
3.  Do Not Settle
Remember, this is still YOUR day. Compromises will be made, but do not settle for less than what you originally wanted. You cannot make everyone happy and if you strive to do so, the wedding will end in disaster. If your bridesmaid is being nit-picky over trivial issues, ignore or talk to her depending on the situation. She can choose what she wants on HER wedding day, but for now, this is YOUR moment!

4.  Remove Her from the Bridal Party
I hate to recommend this, but sometimes difficult decisions have to be made. Instead of jeopardizing your friendship, it may be best for everyone to remove her from your bridal party. Things don't need to end badly, and it's easier for her to step down if you give her a way out. Be the better person and explain to her why you came to this conclusion. Instead of her ruining not only your other bridesmaids’ experiences, she is also affecting your day as well. In the end, everyone will happier.

Do you have any additional advice?  We'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences!  Happy Planning!
