Valentine's Day: Great Gift Ideas

Well, Valentine's is almost here! What do you have planned for that day? Ladies, did you know that while men may not admit to it, they too love to receive flowers! Still skittish about sending them flowers, for fear their "macho" co-workers will tease him. Well, how about some edible roses that all his "buddies" at work will want one for themselves. We have some cookie arrangements available, feauturing our signature sugar cookies shaped in the form of roses or tulips.

For you men, many times, it's not about sending her flowers and a box of chocolates. It's more than that...and no, I don't mean, more expensive. It's all about the little details. Women, for the most part, prefer small thoughtful gifts. Gifts that show her you're thinking about her, gifts that have special meaning to her. Consider maybe righting a poem, making a handmade card or how about a love coupon book? Those are just fun and interactive games that she will absolutely love. Instead of taking her out to a nice restaurant, why not surprise her with a fabulous and romantic dinner right at home!

If all else fails, guys, just visit our website and check out our Valentine's day specials!

A Day To Remember is born...

Marketing three businesses is no fun task, especially if you're passing out three different business cards. With just Cakes To Remember and Flowers To Remember, it was easy to make a two-sided business card but with a third company, not quite the same. I decided a folding business card would work best. I hired a company to come up with some ideas for the design of my new business cards. The idea worked great and voila! I had a business card with all three names. Here I thought my problem was solved, but the fact that there were three names in a business card, I realized that some people would still get confused.

I decided the business was ready for a facelift, of sorts. So, I decided that A Day To Remember will be the company name and all our services could umbrella under it. While I continue to keep the name Cakes To Remember and Flowers To Remember, A Day To Remember was best, since it covered all our services and would certainly leave it open for other services we would eventually offer.

I met with my wonderful webmaster, Cole with Squidz Ink Design and asked him if he could come up with a new concept for the business. I wanted a fun logo, yet professional. A logo that would let people know what all we had to offer. Voila! I immediately fell in love with the design and the makeover on our website!

One of the rules in marketing is to brand yourself. It makes it difficult when your website has one name, one logo, but your business cards still carry the old names with old logos. So a design in the new business cards was in order. I worked off the old design concept and redesigned my new cards.

Our services indeed have expanded. What started off with just cakes, then flowers and eventually coordinating, has turned into a full-service venue, offering linens, event design, catering and chocolate fountains.

I've always believed in growing and don't be surprised when we are a complete "one-stop shop"! So be sure to visit our website for new updates, and for our monthly specials!

Welcome!

Welcome to A Day To Remember! Your primary source for all things wedding related or not! Let me start with introducing myself to you. My name is Claudia De Velasco, part owner of A Day To Remember. My sister Veronica is my business partner and friend! I couldn't ask for a better combination.

Many people ask, how did I get started in this business. Let's just say that one business morphed into a few others before becoming what it is today. Similar to the caterpillar who becomes a beautiful butterfly.

It all started because I wanted to make a beautful cake for my mom. A cake decorated with beautiful sugar roses. Well, sadly enough, I had no skills in cake decorating. I vowed that for my mom's next birthday, she'd have a beautiful birthday cake decorated with lots of sugar roses. I took cake decorating classes and practiced quite a bit. While I was taking classes, my family finally became weary of so many cakes I'd bring home from classes. I never thought I'd hear my family say they were tired of eating cake! Cake! Imagine that!?! What was I to do with so much cake. I was always brought up to never throw food away.

The light bulb turned on. Aha, I can take the cakes to work and share with co-workers. It was a great plan because I became the girl at the office that always brings cakes. Of course, I started bragging that I'd decorated the cakes myself. Word got around and before I knew it, some co-workers were asking how much I'd charge them for a birthday cake for their child's party. Another light bulb turned on. How cool would it be to make money off of something I really loved and enjoyed doing?

When my mom's birthday came around, sure enough, mom had a beautiful cake topped with so many sugar roses! I was so proud of myself, more importantly, my parents were proud of me. By then, I'd received some small job orders for cakes.

By this time, I'd switched jobs and at my new job learned even more about marketing a business. Alas, another light bulb turned on. I started applying those marketing skills towards my little side business...Cakes To Remember. I wanted to see how far I could go with and see if it was something I really wanted to do. Cakes To Remember started growing little by little every day and before I knew it, my current job was seriously getting in the way of my business. That's when I realized what I had to do. Cakes To Remember became my new and permanent job. I knew it would be a job that I loved to do...a job that I wouldn't get tired of.

Cakes and flowers always went hand in hand with my business, as most of the time, we were purchasing the flowers for the cakes. Veronica had a natural flair for flower arranging. We decided to combine our skills and launch a separate company....Flowers To Remember. It became a profitable business just as well.

Before I knew it, the businesses were booming and half the time we were coordinating and advising brides on the do's and dont's of wedding planning. Yet another light bulb turned on. Why am I not getting paid for this? So, my sister and I launched yet a third company...A Day To Remember.

Stay tuned for the continued story of our success! :)
