Breast Cancer Awareness

Today marks the first day to National Breast Cancer Awareness and as many of you may already know, I take this awareness very serious and to heart.

October 15, 2005 was the most horrific and saddest day of my life. My dear mother lost her battle to this terrible disease. The first time around, my mother had been strong enough to fight breast cancer, after making the difficult decision of getting a mastectomy. A few years later, the cancer was back, and back with a vengeance, basically leaving her bed-ridden and unable to communicate verbally. The cancer had, within the course of ten months, rapidly spread.

It was truly a difficult year, spending most days in the hospital, other days at home, but slowly watching a beautiful, strong and vibrant woman turn into a delicate, weak and tiny person. We were all put to a test, for what reason, only God knows, but a painful test indeed. As I type this, everything is still all too raw and can't keep the tears from flowing and my heart from aching.

I don't think I've ever gone public about my experience, but I do encourage you to please have your sisters, mothers, girlfriends, wives, daughters and yourselves take preventative measures. Please!

With so many wonderful organizations out there, it is difficult to pick just one. I've recently become involved with Pink Initiative. So what I'm doing now is offering all profit proceeds of our cookie and cupcake sales (or see picture below) towards Pink Initiative for the month of October.

So please give us a call (713.862.1751) or shoot us an email (orders@daytoremember.net), place your order and feel good doing something great!

Thank you for making a difference!

Fressia + Jeremiah, Part I

Photo Credit: A Day To Remember

Few times do I get to work with easy-going brides, who aren't obsessed over the smallest details and let us handle it for them. Such was the case with Fressia...she had a vision in mind and trusted us to get it taken care of. It really was such a joy working with this lovely couple and I'm looking forward to the professional pictures. For now, I have some "non-professional" pictures of the day. My favorite part were her fun colors: Persimmon and a deep rich purple! Enjoy!

A combination of hydrangeas and roses was used throughout the church decor.

The pew arrangements consisted of hydrangeas, roses and ti leaves.

The newlywed couple posing for the pics.

The girls' bouquets, a combination of pin cushions and roses.

The beautiful wedding party.

Mmmmm....cake!

Guests about to enjoy dinner.

The centerpieces were kept simple, with a combination of submerged mini calla lilies and orchids.

Candy anyone????

The guests, waiting for the arrival of the newlyweds.

Congratulations Fressia & Jeremiah!!!

Erin + Sean, Part I

Photo Credit: A Day To Remember

It's no surprise...I love weddings. What do I love even more? Weddings that offer something different from the usual. It's always refreshing to be a part of something different and unique, such was the case with Erin and Sean. When I first met Erin, she explained to me how she wanted to incorporate Celtic traditions, a nod to both of their Irish heritage. I loved the idea and we immediately got to work!

I've got a few pictures, "non-professional", that I managed to take during the wedding. I'm anxiously awaiting the professional pictures, so I'll be sure to update with "real" pictures, but for now, enjoy the teasers!

Erin's bouquet, a mixture of roses, irises, dahlias, hydrangeas and orchids.

The wedding cake...Strawberry Grand Marnier with a cream cheese filling.

Erin, in her beautiful traditional celtic wedding gown. Isn't she just beautiful?

Part of the ceremony decor.

To create an earthy and romantic ambience for the altar, we incorporated candles and lots of foliage.

The centerpieces...hydrangeas and curly willow.

The ceremony...dad's about to give his little girl away.

A beautiful ceremony, Celtic tradition, with all the guests surrounding the couple, forming a circle.

Lots of dancing...

...and more dancing...including the Chicken Dance!

A big congratulations to Erin and Sean!
