{Wedding Tips} Do I Need a Wedding Planner or a Wedding Coordinator?

{Written by: Emma Aguirre}

The ring is on and now the exciting – yet daunting – task of planning your dream day begins.

The first question? Where to start…

Being clear on who does what in the wedding industry and how they can help you can answer many questions. A wedding planner and wedding coordinator, for example, are two very different roles. A wedding planner offers full planning services, which includes “day-of” coordination. They will guide you through the entire planning process from start to finish and in every aspect, bringing the vision of your wedding to life. A couple will be able to tap into the creativity of a professional who is up to date to the latest wedding trends, as well as take advantage of pre-existing relationships the planner has built over time. Every detail is fine tuned to ensure that your day is just as you have imagined and more.

A wedding planner is a wedding coordinator, but a wedding coordinator isn’t necessarily a wedding planner. A “day of” coordinator simply takes all of the planning you have done independently, and ensures those plans are executed, resulting in a stress-free wedding day for you! Typically, a wedding coordinator will review contracts before hand, follow up with wedding professionals, resolve any "behind the scenes" issues which may arise and manage your special day. Wedding coordinators can be a definite "budget friendly" option, or the perfect alternative to that Type A bride and/or groom!

Whether you chose a coordinator or planner, do your research and don’t be afraid to meet with your favorites. It’s important that you find that planner who is as passionate and excited about your wedding as you are; after all, you will be spending lots of time together!
